Household Products

Product 1: Windex Original
In my household we have been using Windex for a very long time and is always our go-to glass cleaner. This product scored zero in all ratings with the exception of the flammability rating which scored a a slight two. Some acute health effects include eye irritation if there is eye contact and skin irritation and drying. The majority (90-95%) is water and has very little of chemicals that include Isopropanol, 2-Butoxyethanol, and Ethylene glycol n-hexyl ether. Upon reviewing this product on the household products database, I will most likely continue using it because there aren't any exposures that caught my attention.
Product 2: Lemon Pledge

Pledge is my absolute favorite for cleaning wooden furniture in my room. It leaves it super shiny and smells so good! Similar to the Windex, this product scored zero in all ratings except for flammability, scoring a serious four. This product can irritate skin an eyes and  if swallowed, it can enter the lungs and cause damage. Therefore, people with lung problems should not use this product because it can be harmful. It is also important to store this product in a cool and dry setting because the container can burst. Other than water, other chemicals include Dimethicone and Alkanes, C7-10-iso. Both of my products or any cleaning products in general, should be kept out of reach of children and pets. I will continue using this product.

Environmental Health in the News #1

Found this interesting  environmental health  news article  on cigarette butts in the ocean and how they not only harm the ocean, but also the marine life and us! These cigarette butts have filters made of cellulose acetate and "take a decade or longer to break down under ultraviolet light, which in turn disperses the toxic plastic into smaller bits." Makes me want to go to the ocean and clean up all the cigarette butts I see!  News article:   Cigarette butts are the biggest source of ocean garbage

M10.1 Video

1) Consider your workplace or a workplace of one of your family members. Are there chemical, biological, radiological or ergonomic issues? Using the industrial hygiene hierarchy of controls how might you address the issues? How are they being addressed in reality? Recently at work, there were some plumbing issues going on. A pipe from the floor above us was not properly working which caused the restroom that my department uses to overflow. Let me just say the smell was HORRIBLE. If feces exposure is a thing, then we were definitely exposed to that. The smell was so bad that we had to ask our manager to be moved to another office. This restroom was located next door to us therefore, we were really close. The water overflowed to the hallways and we had to wait for it to be cleaned up before stepping a foot outside our office. This was a big issue and I don't think it was addressed properly. The fact that we had to ask to be moved was not acceptable. I think our management should hav...
